Brick Laying History – The Routes of Society
The reliance on bricklaying predates most forms of construction in history. Going as far back as the Egyptians 6,000 years ago, bricklaying has literally been the foundation behind some of the world’s oldest and most ancient structures such as the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Rome’s Colosseum, and many more. However, nothing that survives through brick laying history remains unchanged. With advancements in technology and architecture, masonry has reshaped society one brick at a time. We, at Norristown Brick, have been influenced by architects of brick laying history while adding a flare of our own unique style that has attributed to our success.
Ancient Brick Laying Techniques
Bricklaying thousands of years ago was nowhere near as refined as it is today. The biggest difference lies in how bricks themselves were created. According to this blog, sun-baked clay bricks were used in the aforementioned structures thousands of years ago. Chopped straw and grass was added to the clay mixture to prevent distortion and cracking. Today, the U.S. standard brick size is 2 ½ x 3 ¾ x 8 inches and is comprised predominately of shale. Clay is crafted in kilns at around 2,000F where the chemicals allow it to bond quickly.
Norristown Brick’s Commitment to Proven Techniques
The application of bricks is virtually limitless and have survived thousands of years for a reason. Despite the grandeur of past marvels, bricklaying today refines basic building concepts in ways that architects throughout history never could. We, at Norristown Brick, focus on providing our clients top quality masonry to complement the elegance of their business’s reputation. What makes Norristown Brick unique is that we adhere to the styles of old, but shape that with a modern look.
For example, one of our top services lies in our Henry Standard paving systems that provide ultra-smooth surface textures anywhere the clients wish. Throughout history, creating smooth floors made from chiseled stone or other materials took a lot of time, resources and manpower. With today’s technology, we can have that work completed much faster. We also offer various options and patterns for our paver systems including; Old Towne Cobble™, Brick Stone, Village Square and more that have been seen in ancient and not-so-ancient buildings in history.
The Great Wall of China is the quintessential example of masonry when it comes to walls. However, instead of creating an impenetrable wall over 23 feet tall, Norristown Brick offers wall systems to feature outside of many businesses complementing their image. What separates Norristown Brick from our competitors is our attention to detail and shaping our bricks and stone to refined levels.
